Jenny Kent
Holgate
I have lived, worked and raised my family in Holgate for over 25 years. I have been involved in the community throughout – with local schools as a parent and community Governor, fund raising, and more recently monitoring air quality particularly around St Pauls nursery and primary schools, and looking at ways to reduce use of pesticides and encourage green corridors. I have had the privilege of volunteering with Carecent, Kitchen for Everyone York, and St John’s Ambulance during Covid.
My professional background includes practising Law, teaching at York University, and as an editor in mainstream media and start-ups in energy and health. For the last 6 years, I have worked with an international Malaria charity.
My motivation for standing as Councillor is an increasing frustration at the lack of long-term strategic planning for future proof transport and resident focussed development, and I am concerned that environmental targets and policies are being set without sufficient follow through on action. We all know that central funding has been slashed over the years and council budgets cannot even cover the City’s potholes, but this makes it even more important for all of us to work together and be creative in looking for funding
and solutions, and effective, fair prioritisation of the resources we have.
If elected I promise to work hard on behalf of Holgate Residents, and aim to ensure York is a vibrant, inclusive City for all, regardless of income, and to protect our environment and help reverse the drastic decline in biodiversity wherever we can.
