York Labour chair William Owen has issued a message of thanks to the members and supporters who helped in our recent campaign for the City of York Council Elections.

“The City of York Council elections are over and, although outright control would have been a huge bonus, we were delighted that York Labour bucked the national trend and gained two seats putting us in a strong position to have influence in the new Council.

“It was an absolute joy to be at the Count and watch the Tory melt-down.

“We would like to extend a huge thank-you to all who played their part in achieving this result. From those who gave their time and expertise to produce our brilliant Manifesto (special thanks to Stuart Barnes who masterminded the process) right through to those dozens of members and helpers who trudged streets, knocked on doors, delivered leaflets and did the myriad other jobs that needed doing. Special mention to our Campaign Coordinator Ian Bissell and our Organiser, Albert Ward for their hard work and expertise. We couldn’t have done it without them.

“We now need to take on board all we have earned from the campaign and develop a positive strategy of member and community engagement over the next four years to ensure that we are in a better position to win back control of the Council at the next opportunity.

“York 2023 starts now!!”
