ISSUES, HABIT OR ENERGY? Which of these will determine where you put your valuable X in the York local elections?
Issues? Very sensible. There are lots of things needing sorting in the villages, suburbs and streets of York. There’s a lack of fairness and ambition. We have six election pledges below. They’d be just the beginning.
Habit? Ah, well, there’ll definitely be a few of you reading this who will never try an alternative then. Loyalty is admirable. Though we would point out (because many people don’t realise) that since 2015 York City Council has been controlled by a hodge-podge of various coalitions involving the Conservatives, Green councillors and the Liberal Democrat Party. That’s from before Bowie died. Eight years of confusing, uncomfortable pacts to maintain power.
Energy? You know what … we’d say this is probably the most important factor when choosing a group of local people to work for you. Their commitment to hard work. Realistically, issues come and go, there’ll always be something new that needs fixing, but making sure dedicated and proactive folk are in position ready to address whatever needs to be addressed is vital.
What’s in a name? Everything really. Labour. Hard work is what we believe in. At our heart we’re the grassroots, labouring movement working hard to build communities and better places to live.
York Labour members and councillor leaders have spent the past two years working hard on your behalf to understand the motivations, aspirations and challenges faced by organisations, businesses and residents across our city. Our pledges and longer policy document are the result of these conversations. We’re looking forward to putting in the hard graft to get these policies implemented for our city should you lend us your local election vote on May 4th 2023 and York Labour takes the leadership of City of York Council.
