Personal Details
- I am 59 years old, with two grown up daughters and have lived in York for 31 years. I was educated in Dundee, at Ruskin College, Oxford, and at Sheffield University. I was employed as a senior official of UNISON, until retiring in 2006.
- Elected to the council in 2003 and chaired the Social Services & Health Scrutiny Committee . Now Labour's Spokesperson on Health and Adult Social Services.
- I am a Governor of Knavesmire Primary School and previously a Governor at Millthorpe School. I am on the Board of Trustees of the Council of Voluntary Service (CVS). I also served on the York Community Health Council (CHC) and am presently a City of York Council appointed governor on York Foundation Hospitals Trust.
OUR PRIORITIES FOR MICKLEGATE
Young Peoples’ Activities
- Further extend facilities for youth activity through the youth service and local clubs
- Introduce more play equipment in open spaces and parks. Develop more games facilities e.g. table tennis and putting
- Continue working with community groups to bring St Clements Hall back into public use
The Environment & Terrace Area Recycling
- Extend doorstep recycling collection throughout the Ward to include all flats and terrace properties
- Extend cardboard waste collection to terraced streets and flats and address the need to include a wider range of plastic waste
- Extend & improve local community recycling sites
- Raise awareness of environmental issues amongst local residents and businesses, and welcome suggestions & ideas for local action.
Micklegate Regeneration
- Re-establish Micklegate Bar as the historic premier entrance to the City
- Develop & promote an economic development plan with local traders and heritage sites
- Work with property agents to ensure the letting of vacant premises to new businesses
- Signpost Micklegate as an alternative route into the City from the station
