I live in the Leeman Road area, on Stamford Street East and I work at York Station for East Coast, the publicly owned rail company. I am a member of the TSSA and RMT unions. I have previously worked in the NHS in both administrative and caring roles, in local government and in the voluntary sector working with homeless people and people with drug and alcohol problems
I joined the Labour Party to support strong public services and oppose their marketisation and privatisation, to protect and improve the rights and living standards of ordinary workers and vulnerable people and to stand up for Democratic Socialist values
I am realistic enough to know that doing this at a time of unprecedented cuts is going to be very hard, but the Labour group will do its utmost to protect local people.
In the local area I am involved in supporting groups in York such as friends of Back Park, where I hold the position of Secretary and have played a part in successfully lobbying to save the funding for the Garnet Terrace play area.
If elected to the council I will continue to fight to win back flood defence money for Leeman Road, robbed from residents by the ConDem government.
