  • MP for City of York since 1992. Minister at DSS (1999 - 2001). PPS to Secretary of State for Health (1997 - 1999). Member of the Health Select Committee (1992 - 1997). Former Camden Councillor.
  • Member of RMT, SERA, Socialist Health Association and ACTSA.
  • Member of the International Development Committee
  • Chair of the Africa All Party Parliamentary Group
  • Rapporteur of the Economic Committee of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly
