Denise Bowgett

Councillor - Holgate Ward

Personal Details

  • I was born in Edinburgh in 1962 and came to York with my family in 1965. We lived in the Hollybank area of Holgate and I attended St Paul’s C of E Primary School and later Mill Mount Grammar School. At sixteen I left school and went to York College of Arts & Technology to do a diploma in Business Studies.
  • I have been married twice; have two children and one step son who is away at University. I worked at General Accident and then in a call centre for a short spell before working as a Housing Assistant for the City of York Council. In 1996 I moved back to Holgate and my children attend local schools. My interests include Housing, Education and the Environment.

The campaign

PUTTING HOLGATE RESIDENTS FIRST
  • Providing monthly surgeries by your Labour Councillors in different locations across the Ward.
  • Delivering Holgate Rose to every home on a regular basis telling you what your Labour Councillors have achieved.
  • A commitment to respond to all resident inquiries within 48 hours.
POLICING IN ACOMB
  • Campaigning for the re-opening of the Acomb Police Station to the general public.
  • Campaigning for the neighbourhood Policing Team to be based in Acomb rather than Fulford Road, providing a more efficient and cost effective service.
FOOTPATH IMPROVEMENTS IN ACOMB
Focussing on the needs of Holgate residents generally and older people in particular:
  • By replacing broken and dangerous paving slabs on the approach to Acomb shops
  • Restoring the footpaths damaged by road works for Ftr buses
  • Changing priorities by investing in footpath improvements instead of resurfacing roads in Acomb
SCHOOL SAFETY
  • Following a dangerous accident we have worked to re-establish a school crossing patrol at the Watson street and the Holgate Road junction for the benefit of children at St Paul’s School.
