Councillor - Clifton Ward
Personal Details
- I was first elected as a councillor in 2003.
- At present I am the Children and Young People’s Champion and have worked tirelessly on behalf of young people in the city. I worked with MP Hugh Bayley and the local paper on a national campaign to ensure that people who abduct children are put on the sexual offenders’ register.
- I campaigned against the closure of the footpath through St Peters School Ground and with my fellow councillors ran an extensive alleygate campaign for Clifton.
- At present I sit on the Audit and Governance Committee, am part of the Social Inclusion working group and am Chair of the Corporate Services and Advisory panel.
- I was previously the Undersherriff when Cllr Looker was Mayor. I have sat on the Learning and Culture Committee and the Leisure Committee.
- I am 39. During my spare time I enjoying leading on walks at various altitudes.
- I love spending time with my family, especially going to theme parks to ride on the roller-coasters.
The campaign
Tackling Crime and anti-social behaviour
- We will continue to work with Police in our Joint Action Group so that residents can get a direct line to both police and Council officers to tackle crime and disorder when it happens.
- We welcome the extra PCSOs provided by the Labour Government.
- We will work with residents to get alleygates in terraced back lanes to prevent burglary and criminal damage.
The Environment & Recycling
- Extend doorstep recycling collection throughout the Ward to all terrace properties
- Extend cardboard waste collection to terraced streets and address the need to include a wider range of plastic waste
- Extend & improve local community recycling sites.
- Raise awareness of environmental issues amongst local residents and businesses, and welcome suggestions & ideas for local action.
- Ensure that back lanes in terraced areas are regularly cleaned
- Ensure that graffiti is cleaned up promptly
Young Peoples’ Activities
- Further extend facilities for youth activity through the youth service and local clubs
- Fund the Sports Bus to provide activities round the whole of Clifton
- Set up a Youth Fund through the Ward Committee to provide activities and holiday schemes for young people.
Working with local residents
- We consult regularly with local residents to make sure that we know what you want in the Clifton area through surveys, surgeries and walkabouts
- You will be listened to and decision will be properly explained, unlike the Liberal Democrats we will not let this community down.
