The campaign
Working with local residents
- We are keen to support Residents Associations across the Ward. We will work help set up an Association on the Carr Estate
- Labour are promising to put more funding into support for a Residents’ Association after this was cut back by the Lib Dems.
- We will campaign for proper community facilities for Acomb residents.
Tackling Anti Social Behaviour
- We have funded work with the police and Mayfair Security to highlight trouble spots in the Ward requiring attention.
- We hold monthly meetings with the police and Council staff to review progress in tackling anti-social behaviour issues.
Resurrect the A59 Boroughbridge Road Park and Ride
- Boroughbridge Road is the busiest route into the City without a Park and Ride site
- We will continue to campaign for a Park and Ride site to relieve the excessive rush hour pressure on the Boroughbridge Road.
Improve the local environment
- We have taken action to prevent over-running of verges in the Ostman Road area. We want to improve the verges on Beckfield Lane
- The private paved area in front of the shops at the Plantation Drive & Boroughbridge Road junction are a cause for concern. We are seeking to upgrade these through pressure by the Council on the landowners.
- We will continue to work to ensure that local streets are clean, tidy and litter free.
Campaign for better bus Services
- We will continue to lobby the bus company to improve the No 10 to a 15 min service and return the No 26 to run to Monks Cross
- We continue to campaign for shelters at all bus stops to have timetable information.
