Councillor - Acomb

  • David has represented Acomb Ward since 1986 and has served the City as its Lord Mayor in 2002/3 and again in 2011/2.
  • In the past has chaired the Housing Committee and West Area/City Centre Planning and Transport Committees.
  • He currently is Chair of the City Council's Main Planning Committee.
  • David has previously been a School Governor at Westfield and Oaklands (now York High) schools and is currently a Governor at Copmanthorpe Primary School.
  • A former magistrate on the City of York Bench for 29 years he retired in 2011 having reached the age of 70.
  • David is a retired Chartered Civil Engineer who worked in the railway industry for 42 years. He is a former National President of his Trade Union, the Transport Salaried Staffs' Association - TSSA.
  • David was awarded the MBE in 2012 for services to the Community.
  • David is married with 2 children, 2 step children and 5 grandchildren. He lists his hobbies as DIY and playing golf (badly) at Pike Hills Golf Club and plays off a handicap of 23.
  • Born and brought up in Yorkshire he has lived in York since 1979 and is a lifelong supporter of Middlesbrough Football Club.
