Personal Details
- I have been a councillor since 1979, and over these last twenty eight years have served on every Council committee. I was the last chair of city centre planning before the Lib Dems abolished it. At present I am serving on planning committees, neighbourhood services, leisure and licensing.
- I was born in York, beginning my career with an apprenticeship at Cook, Troughton and Simms, who are optical instrument makers in Haxby Rd.
- I had later jobs at "Acmade's" in Uxbridge, making editing machines for the TV and film industry, and also at Martin Bakers, who were an aircraft ejection seat manufacturer. I have also worked as an aircraft fitter, shop steward & works convenor at British Aerospace. I am married with 2 children, a boy and a girl, and also have two grandchildren.
The campaign
Support Local Community Organisations
- We are involved in lots of things that concern residents and support Residents Associations
- We will work to support community groups and in particular new opportunities for community meeting points.
- We will reduce Respark fees to ensure we are protecting local communities
Extend recycling to terraced areas and flats
- We will work to provide bespoke solutions to the various types of flats in the area
- We will ensure that terraced areas get more recycling
- For those areas that cannot be reached by a vehicle, we will work to get ‘bring banks’ that are suitable for the areas concerned
Tackling crime and anti-social behaviour
- We work and will continue to work with Neighbourhood Crime and Community Action Groups in the Walmgate and Navigation Road area and in the Groves.
- We will bring police and neighbourhood concerns directly together so that residents can get a direct line to both police and the Council to tackle crime and disorder when it happens.
- We will work with residents to get alleygates in terraced back lanes to prevent burglary
Improve street cleaning
- We will ensure gullies and drains are cleaned regularly
- We will support manual sweeping of footpaths and back lanes.
Improving air quality and congestion
- We will campaign for measures to tackle congestion in the City centre such as park and ride sites on the edge of town
- We will support the low emission zone for the City Centre to improve air quality
