A number of residents on the street have made the call to their local councillors, who have responded positively.
Coun. Denise Bowgett said:
"Holgate as a ward already has a number of these zones with Howe Hill Close, St Swithin's Walk, Burnsall Drive, as well as others off Sowerby Road already benefiting from controls on this activity. A consultation with residents should now take place, after which cold callers will be operating illegally if residents come back in favour of such a scheme. As councillors we support such schemes if residents give them their backing".
Mildred Grove resident Jim Kerr commented:
"I, and a number of other residents in the area, feel that salesmen door-knocking is not only most inconvenient but also an intrusion of our privacy. In addition, we do have senior residents in the area who may well fall vulnerable to such sales tactics.
"Of course there is also the point of whether a salesperson is genuine or not. After all it could be a person trying to ascertain whether you are worth another, less legal, second visit".
Mr Kerr added that he was surprised that given more modern ways of selling, that respectable firms still needed to knock on doors to make sales.
"Seems a bit ‘old hat' to me", he concluded.
