Media Release from City of York Council Labour Group
Local ward councillor David Scott said:
"I attended a meeting of residents on Monday evening (24th May) and I am very concerned about the planning application for the development of the former dairy off White Cross Road. It is clear to me that there has been a complete failure by Yorkshire Housing and the Council to discuss the proposals with local residents.
"I was told last night that only 5 letters were sent out to residents in the area advising them of the planning application. Planning applications of this nature need to have much wider consultation.
"Yorkshire Housing should have spoken to residents before submitting the application so that residents were fully informed and their views taken into account when designing the scheme. This has just not been done. We have learned from the Terry's site that the views of the community need to be taken into account when making such planning applications.
"The proposed development will cause real difficulties in relation to parking and traffic in the area. I am extremely concerned that with less than a week to go before the objections have to be received at the Council, the Highways report is still not available. This is a vital piece of information and it is just not acceptable that this is still outstanding.
"Residents quite rightly have concerns over loss of privacy, safety, security, traffic, site access, draining, design and how the whole process has been undertaken.
"I will now be contacting Yorkshire Housing asking them to withdraw the application and to come and talk to residents so that a development can be designed that will complement the area and be part of the community".
