Footy theme for Heworth get together
27 April 2010
Youngsters will be competing for free match tickets and a signed ball from York City Football Club when Heworth Ward Committee hosts a young people's five-a-side football tournament next Monday (26th).

The tournament, which has been hugely popular with the public in recent years, will take place simultaneously with other talks and information stalls in the main hall at Burnholme Community College.

Ward councillor Ruth Potter said:

"The football tournament is a wonderful way of involving young people and of the ward committee organising something less formal that will attract different people along. It is a real community event and is as much fun for those involved as it is competitive.

"Those involved are in line for some prizes from York City Football Club so I'm sure we'll see a great turnout as we have in previous years".

Fellow councillor Barbara Boyce described what else was on offer alongside the tournament:

"I'm intrigued to learn more about Heworth Primary School's ‘ideal councillor exhibition', and hope that I tick at least some of the boxes for what the pupils think makes a good councillor! In addition to that there will be a talk on healthy eating which is great timing, as many people at this time of year get out into their gardens and grow their own.

"We will also be electing a new Planning Panel for 2010/11. This is a great opportunity for local people who care about their local area and want to play a part in making decisions that keep the ward special".

The football tournament gets underway at 4pm with stalls in the main hall at the same time, including the opportunity for residents to talk with their ward councillors about any issues they may have.
