And ward councillor James Alexander said it was important residents retained the ability to influence local priorities as budget cuts at the council are debated. He said:
"There are some notable allocations of money that will improve the local environment and the appeal of the ward. We have committed £7.5k to improve street lighting in various parts of the ward, and almost £2k on crime reduction initiatives, both of which will improve community safety.
"At least £4k will be spent on youth work in the ward, with further funding going to Street Sport York and Playspace for activities for children and young people. It's critically important that we continue to support these worthwhile organisations".
And crucially, amongst other funding directed at residents safety and well-being, the ward has agreed to fund salt bins at appropriate locations throughout the ward.
Coun. Denise Bowgett commented:
"The weather has taken another turn this week, meaning roads and pavements are freezing and icy once again. The removal of many salt bins by the council in the past two years has proved ill-judged with the weather over the past two months, so I'm pleased we can make this commitment to resident safety and ensure people are given the opportunity to get out and about by making surfaces safer".
