Media Release from City of York Council Labour Group
Acomb Labour Ward Councillor, David Horton, will be moving a motion at a Full Council meeting calling on the Executive Member for Strategic Services, Coun. Steve Galloway, to abandon flawed proposals for joint pedestrian/cycle usage at the south end of Beckfield Lane.
Coun. Horton said:
"I'm hoping that on the assumption of receiving majority support at Full Council for my motion, Coun. Galloway will have little choice but to curtail the continued wasteful use of the city council's technical resources in developing a near £300,000 estimated scheme.
"Both I and my ward colleague Coun. Tracey Simpson-Laing have opposed this scheme from day one. We are only pursuing this matter to Full Council given the refusal of the council's officers to give serious consideration to other alternatives which have been suggested.
"I hope that, given the support of the majority of Councillors, the Executive Member for Strategic Services will see the error of his ways and act appropriately".
