Media Release from City of York Council Labour Group
Coun. Simpson-Laing said:
"This indicates the level of concern that residents on the estate are expressing on behalf of their families and in particular, their children. Whilst the majority of road users do abide by the current speed limitations, there are still those irresponsible drivers who remain a danger on the narrow roads on the estate".
Coun. David Horton, the other Labour Councillor for Acomb Ward, who collected the petition at Monday's Residents' Association meeting, praised the effort that the residents had put in to collect such a high percentage. He said:
"Residents are to be congratulated for their efforts on this petition. I'm calling on the Executive Member for City Strategy to recognise the high level of percentage response and to progress the relevant action to a speedy (or should I say less speedy?) conclusion".
Labour is committed to seeing a 20mph speed limit across the city in residential areas, and will host national ‘20's plenty' campaign director Rod King when he addresses a public meeting of the council's shadow executive on 11th February at the Guildhall in York. The meeting commences at 5.30pm and all are welcome.
