No. 10 bus service suffering despite moves to improve
30 October 2008
Residents in Acomb Ward are once again expressing their concern about the No10 bus service. Since May the service has been reduced to a 30 minutes services which First said would make the service more reliable. However, this has not been the case with residents regularly left standing at bus stops for over 40 minutes, buses apparently missing from service altogether and extreme over-crowding at peak hours, especially before 8am and after 3.30pm.

Coun. Tracey Simpson-Laing comments

"Residents are really fed up with First York and the No.10 service. It is now not more reliable, in fact it is worse. Often the bus traveling into town just before 8am is full to capacity by the time it reaches Sovereign Park, off Boroughbridge Road, and it still needs to pick up at Malvern Avenue AND Poppleton Road School. Bus users are often left standing for the whole of the journey with then standing right up to the drivers cab.
"I have great concerns over safety, as it would only take one sharp use of the brakes and someone could go flying into the windscreen. I know this from using the service and it is not acceptable. Rather than encouraging residents to use the bus such experiences will simply drive them away".

Coun. Simpson-Laing and Coun. David Horton have asked that First York attends the next Acomb ward committee meeting in January to listen to residents' concerns.

Coun. Horton comments:

"One of the questions we will be asking is when will the No10 service revert back to a 20 minute service or, as promised, a 15 minute service. The new rising bollard on Low Poppleton Lane will be in use from Easter and so I will be pressing First for a date".
