Media Release from City of York Council Labour Group
Ward councillor Sandy Fraser said:
"It's important all sections of the community are kept up to date with what is happening to services they use, and particularly the elderly who are likely to access health services more than other groups. I'm pleased the council has regarded this important enough for the its Director of Housing and Adult Social Services, Bill Hodson to come along and explain the Older People's Strategy as part of the main meeting".
The main meeting commences at 6pm at St Clement's Church, following the Older People's Surgery at 5pm. Those attending will be able to get advice from the Citizens Advice Bureau, speak with local councillors and council officers, and pick up a number of freebies too such as energy efficient light bulbs and a free home safety check.
Coun. Julie Gunnell explained why the event was so important:
"Many of the elderly are vulnerable and the council has a duty to ensure it engages with them and that they know what is on offer and what they are entitled to. The advice on offer on cold callers and on trustworthy tradesman can help to reduce the anxieties the elderly feel when people come to their doors. Age Concern, Older People's Advocacy York and the Older People's Assembly are all organisations the elderly can find out about, and who can help them when they need it".
