Progress on Hungate HQ call for answers
02 September 2008
The council has finally published a list of costs outlining what has been spent and committed to its flagship HQ project at Hungate. Figures show a spending commitment of just over £4.8m. But an officer report going before the Labour shadow executive tomorrow (20th), says it is not possible to establish which of these costs are abortive, which can only be determined when any new set of plans has been proposed.

Chair of the shadow executive, Coun. David Scott said in response to the report:

"It is clearly welcome news that the council has decided to publish the costs that we have been calling for over the past month. But the real issue in terms of moving forward and public accountability is how much of this figure is actually wasted money? It is important for residents to have confidence in this project and the public deserves to know what finances are involved. It is only thanks to pressure from the Press that these figures have been released rather than being discussed behind closed doors"
"Many of the figures included require further investigation to find out if they are dead money, or if they can be rolled over to the new plans. I'd be keen to know why the Human Resources commitment was £23k last year, whilst costs for land assembly in relation to the Ambulance station and Peasholme hostel will clearly remain should the HQ still be planned for the Hungate site".
