Media Release from City of York Council Labour Group
"The event was a lot of fun and we were very fortunate with the weather (see photo). Local residents really made the most of Back Park, with residents coming from right across the ward in belated celebration at the news that part of the park has been saved from being sold off for housing. Residents showed what a focal point the area can be, particularly once we have got it back into a reasonable condition as a leisure space".
The July meeting also featured a demonstration from the ward's street environment officer on using graffiti cleaning equipment, which can be provided by the council free of charge. The council's Urbie bus, which provides information and youth services to young people aged 11 to 25, was also at the event.
"We had a good mix of adults and children and young people and there was plenty for everyone to do", said Coun. Denise Bowgett.
Coun. James Alexander added:
"I was extremely interested in the police mobile van unit, slightly more than I was on the bouncy castle it has to be said. But the day was a success and we plan to do the same again next year".
