Media Release from City of York Council Labour Group
Shadow city strategy spokesperson Coun. Ruth Potter expressed her satisfaction with the changes:
"The addition of late night services will enable many residents to return home after a night out without having to resort to a taxi service. Clearly there is the demand there, and many people going out want to go home around this time and not in the early hours. I'm sure they will appreciate anything that cuts the cost of a night out".
Further changes to be introduced by First York include the addition on the number 10 route of a 7:53am service from Stamford Bridge to Archbishop Holgate School to ease demand on the overcrowded 7:48 service.
"This change is welcome as earlier changes from a 15 minute to an half hourly service caused significant problems", Coun. Potter said.
"Labour welcomes these changes, but there are other problems which remain and services still under threat long term, including the number 13 service which at present is safe for only 2 more months. It remains to be seen whether patronage on that service has improved. We will await the review report on public transport in the city with anticipation, and in the hope it delivers transport provision that meets residents' needs".
Changes to First York services will come into effect on 31st August.
