Local bus service retained
04 August 2008
Councillors in Heworth have welcomed a decision to retain the number 28/29 bus service running between the Heslington and Monks Cross, at least until next year. The decision involves the council maintaining its subsidy to keep the bus service operating until at least March 2009, by which time a full review of public transport provision will have been undertaken.

Heworth councillor Tina Funnell said:

"I'm pleased this decision has been taken as although the service is not the busiest in the city, it is well used and very important to a great many people. Many students living in Heworth take advantage of the service, while many students living in Heslington use the service to visit the shops at Monks Cross".

Fellow ward councillor Paul Blanchard said:

"This service is important, and is obviously at a disadvantage until such time as cross-ticketing is introduced. If people could hop on and off the buses of different service providers with one ticket, then I'm sure the 28/29 service would enjoy higher patronage. Heworth councillors have always campaigned to protect bus services serving local residents and will continue to do so".
