Scarcroft Park to host open-air ward committee
03 July 2008
Councillors are gearing up for a slightly different ward committee in Micklegate ward this Thursday when they meet in a local park. The themed event, around volunteering, will take place in Scarcroft Park at 3pm where councillors and a number of organisations will be present to talk with local residents. Micklegate councillor Dave Merrett said:

"The theme of volunteering is a very important one and this is an ideal time of year for people to get involved. Volunteering can be very rewarding in a number of ways, and can help hugely with future employment prospects. The opportunities exist for both young and old alike to volunteer and I would urge anyone with the time to do so - it really does benefit the local community".

The event will involve a bouncy castle for youngsters, arts and crafts as well as sporting activities. There will also be a number of freebies residents can get their hands on if they attend. Coun. Sandy Fraser said:

"Various organisations will be at the meeting to talk with residents about what it means to volunteer and how it helps them to keep going. The forecast is for the odd shower but I'm sure we'll enjoy some sunny spells which should enable people to experience their ward committee in a different way to normal in the outdoors".

The event kicks off at 3pm, on Scarcroft Green and will take place inside the primary school if the weather is particular poor.
