Media Release from City of York Council Labour Group
Poppleton Road school governor, Coun. Sonja Crisp said:
"We have done quite a bit of research to find out what the issues are around long standing vacancies for SCPOs in our ward. We know that the council has tried to do what it can too but it seems to be a problem that won't be easily resolved. Carrying out this role offers community involvement so obviously we are disappointed that no-one has come forward who could be appointed to do this most valuable job".
St Paul's nursery governor, Coun. Denise Bowgett added:
"It is obviously an unconventional role but I think it can be rewarding for the right person. It is also provisionally in line for a pay increase as a result of the council's pay and grading review, which could take it up to an hourly pay rate of £7.50 which would be a vast improvement. I'm still hopeful someone will come forward, and the indication is that when someone is appointed, they usually stay in the role for some time which would be great news for local school children and their families".
