The Mount School is very pleased to welcome City of York Council's Children and Young People's Champion, Councillor James Alexander, to answer open questions about what the Council does and how young people can get involved and make a difference to York as a young citizen.
The pupils will be a group of year 7s (age 12). They have been investigating York all year. This has included the history and identity of York. They now want to know more about the Council and their elected representatives.
James said: “I have asked for the questions to not be given to me before the event. I may live to regret that decision! I think it is right that young people should be given the opportunity to hold their elected representatives to account as much as any other citizen of York. I think this is even more true in my role as I was elected by York's children and young people. I think it is great to have young people with such a York community interest. It really shows that many of York's young people are model citizens of the future.”
James is touring many schools in York. James' next open questions visit will be to Heworth Primary School.
James added, “If any young person or teacher wants me to visit their school, please get in touch.”
The event is at 3pm at the Mount School on Wednesday 10th June.
