Media Release from James Alexander

Councillor James Alexander has branded National Express plans to shed jobs as 'shameful'
31 March 2008
James is supporting Britain's second largest rail union (TSSA) after National Express bus and rail operator announced 115 job losses among 500 clerical and management staff mainly based at its York headquarters.

"The new franchise has only been operation a few months. I have found that prices have risen in the rail fare to London and yet they are laying off staff. It is truly shameful. I believe it is wrong to put profits before people."
Councillor James Alexander - Labour Candidate for York Outer

James added, "I agree with TSSA, that National Express seem happy to see jobs go as long as they receive more than £1 billion from National Express during the life of this franchise. I think that a lot of questions need answering. It looks very much like these job losses were planned before National Express even got the franchise."
