James Alexander defends John Grogan
28 March 2008
Prospective Labour MP, Councillor James Alexander has slammed Elvington Park Limited for ignoring the concerns of local residents and for being offensive to John Grogan MP.

Elvington Park Limited submitted a planning application for more flight lanes to expand Elvington airfield. John Grogan MP put forward the concerns of local residents and was retaliated at by being called a "hollow and uninformed politician".

"I have known John for some years. He is one of the most principled politicians I have ever known or am likely to know. I am amazed that anyone would say that John was a hollow and uninformed politician. Conservative Councillors have even commented to me on what a good MP he is."

James added, "If I can be half the politician John has been when I succeed him, I will have done a good job."

Regarding the planning application, James said "I can see the arguments on both sides and I am keeping my mind open about this, but accusing a good MP of being hollow is not going to start a dialogue on the right foot or help allay local residents' concerns."
