Councillor James Alexander calls for a change of heart to allow Ghurkas remain
26 March 2008
Prospective Labour MP, Councillor James Alexander is calling for a change of heart to allow Ghurkas who retired before 1997 to remain in the UK.

Ghurkas have fought for Britain for more than two centuries and have had a long running battle for equal rights.

"These people have risked their lives to defend this nation. They have earned the right to be British. I believe not allowing them to stay is a massive snub and does not show the gratitude that the Ghurkas deserve. In my opinion the Ghurkas have done more to prove they are British than many who are born here."
Councillor James Alexander - Labour Candidate for York Outer

James added, "How can we expect to recruit people to the military if we treat our personnel in this way."
